Our Story
Crantock Street Community Garden began in 2017 with a simple ambition: to create a welcoming green space that would bring local people together. What started as a community idea has grown through the time, energy and enthusiasm of residents and volunteers who share a commitment to making the neighbourhood a greener, friendlier and more connected place.
The garden is shaped by the people who use and care for it. Volunteers come together to plant, grow, tidy and improve the space, sharing skills and learning from one another along the way. Just as importantly, the garden provides a place to meet neighbours, make new friendships and enjoy being outdoors.
Over the years, the community has worked hard to protect the garden and develop plans for its future. With the support of local partners and funders, we are now entering an exciting new chapter. Our aim is to create a beautiful, accessible and sustainable space that can be enjoyed by people of all ages for many years to come.
There is still plenty to do, but the passion behind the project is as strong as ever. Every volunteer, supporter and neighbour who gives their time, shares an idea or joins an event helps the garden continue to grow.
"What I enjoy most about volunteering is the sense of purpose it brings. It feels good to be part of something wholesome, to contribute to the community and to meet people from all walks of life. The garden has absolutely helped me feel more connected locally. It has given me the opportunity to meet people from surrounding areas whom I might never otherwise have crossed paths with, and it’s been rewarding to see people come together around a shared project."
